I find it hilarious that Steve Jobs claimed Apple was not tracking users, but now all of a sudden we find Location tracking being completely removed from this version of iOS, that is honestly something that annoyes me..
Still haven't seen a single post from you that had any backing or even knowledge of anything. Just how young are you, anyway?
is there any way we can view our own tracked info. it would be cool to see where i have been.
You can't remember? Was there a lot of alcohol?
I know I'm late in this thread.. but, the supposed battery life improvements, is that simply the result of iOS no longer tracking so much information? Or is it the result of real unrelated improvements?
There have been unrelated complaints about battery life since 4.3 came out, and for the entire existence of the Verizon version. Maybe they've finally addressed that.
This is the point. It doesn't matter which side of the coin you're on regarding privacy. Off means off. On means on.

This is the ONLY reasonable issue, and it hardly matters. All the rest is Apple hating and stupidity. Congrats on the side you've chosen.
Name one manufacturer of consumer electronics who does ALL of their manufacturing in the continental USA.
SVSound speaker company. Although they source components from elsewhere.
We kind of liked the fact that we could look at where you've been with your iPhone, too.

    Signed,
Mr. Mugger, Mr. Thief and Mr. Robber Man
Only if you stole it, first. So I corrected your signature.
    And your option is...?

Personally, I'd like to know if the deletion that results from turning off Location Services results in slower response time when you turn it back on. Does turning it back on give you a sufficient download from the mothership to get you up and running again quickly?

    Now that's a good question.

You can't even check on orders already placed at Apple.com. The store is down.

thats what happened last wednesday before the iMacs/Minis were released. New hardware must be coming out today.

Getting it for PS3, I haven't pre ordered it but I'll probably get it at midnight from BlockBusters.

I always preferred W@W to MW2 so I'm hoping it's gonna be more like that. If it's more like MW2 I'll probably be like this within a day.

Yes I'm well aware of China Mobile's vast GSM Edge network. But this is a 3g phone. So that 558 Million actually doesn't count given that it would be like giving the phone to T-Mobile knowing that they can't support 3g. And Apple doesn't pull moves like that since it would open them up for lawsuits (if someone unlocks on their own, that's on them).

The real numbers to look at are 152 Million valid GSM 3g subscribers against 178 Million CDMA customers. And no contract prohibiting having a phone for both. So again, if this is about making money, why didn't they make a CDMA phone for that second group. Assuming they are open to having a CDMA iphone at all.

You can't add. That would be 152M GSM 3G subscribers vs 85M CDMA subscribers. And to answer the last question, probably because they had a GSM phone all ready to go.

And on what basis would someone have a lawsuit? Because the phone has more capability than the network????? Sorry, no basis for a lawsuit there. That just makes no sense.

I don't think China has much interest in the iPhone.

    We're talking about China specifically.

Edit: DOH! You changed your post. (actually, Apple had problems keeping up w/ demand in China)

Exactly rdowns & miles01110. If people can't even adequately vote on a news post, how can we expect this to add any value?

Part of the issue is what defines "adequately voting"? The voting system on the front page is entirely subjective and- in my opinion- adds nothing to the appeal or disappeal of the story. Same for individual posts.

Thats not apart of what a home should be. Homes are for eating, sleeping, loving, and relaxing. A screening room is for... Well, none of those.

I guess you are still in the lets all commute to work and congest the highways and burn all the electricity and gas we can boat. I've gone the route of live and work at home. Much less stress. Much more time for lovin.

nope not free. I happen to have a Pipeline subscription since I cancelled my cable tv in anticipation of AppleTV: subscribe to the shows I watch and use Pipeline for my live news tv needs.

Apple is becoming mainstream and everybody is watching. I bet next year we'll have more networks streaming the keynote live.

Good to know that Apple is willing to change.

The Expose/Spaces "slider" was one of the first things I noticed that seemed strange when I installed the preview.

The slider makes sense when you have at least 3 icons but with only 2 it is not immediately apparent. I think we have been conditioned to take a darker button as being shadowed and therefore selected.

And the scrollbars being always on seems to be a good decision as well. It is nice to know where you are in a document at a glance, and the scrollbar does that pretty well.

NT 4 and Windows 95/98 don't use the same kernel at all. They might share the GUI sub-system (actually, it's called the Win32 sub-system, which is probably what Windows Team blog is referring when referring to API versions, since Win32 is the Windows API) (and yes, I know the 64 bit version is called Win64, just like the 16 bit version was called Win16), but they do not share the same architecture/kernel at all, which Smitty inferred. So no, Smitty wasn't right at all, is use of the word kernel was wrong and confusing.

Anyway, the only way it makes sense again is Windows NT releases. I doubt the Windows Team Blog are in on marketing meetings. ;)

do you happen to know what windows 7 code name was or was windows 7 the code name that became the marketing name?
edit never mind: Look it up. it was Blackcomb what I though it was but was not sure.

You really want to watch video on a 10" screen? That's the joke.

On a more serious note, not really. I was trying to think of something other than web browsing. I have a HTPC that I cobbled together that takes care of that.

I've been getting some weird redirections at the Australian Apple Store...

Just remembered that of course the Apple Store itself will be down at some stage tonight, so I checked it out. But instead I was redirected to the UK education store page. I tried re-entering the address several times but kept getting redirected to different parts of the UK store.

It's back to normal now, but very odd behaviour nonetheless.

And the Australian iTunes Store is also showing the black screen now. :)

    Sweet!

4 Hours now - I get the feeling this could be big. No movies for us but then that's to be expected. I just wanna see what is coming that we can use.

initially i was skeptical of the design as i was wondering how anyone is supposed to hold this thing (while watching video) without blocking the screen. then i realised when i use the ipod to watch video, it's usually resting on a table (at work) or in my palm (on the train). i don't actually watch video while i'm walking down the street for example.

however, i think with a virtual touch screen click wheel, the screen of the ipod is gonna be a mess in no time...fingerprint city. i also have visions of me forgetting to click hold as i wipe the screen to remove the finger prints, then inadvertently blasting my ears off as the volume on the virtual wheel goes up. i dunno. having said that, can't wait to see it!

    Full Screen QT FTW :)

& I love all the stuff so far. :D

Just finished - felt shorter than the 1:56 running time. Glad I waited for video - as we all knew it makes everything much clearer. Keep trying on those links if you can't get it - as Europe sleeps they will onloy get faster - night!

That sliding what ever they call it was a no show. Buttons are everywhere in our word, where are the slider stuff.

To Apple "if its not broken don't fix it!"

Obviously. I was responding to the idea that is was somehow ironic (and funny) that such a low-tech device could disrupt such a high-tech show. There are many other low-tech ways to cause problems for exhibitors. You can't have an open, accessible show floor and protect against everyone's idea of a "prank." Exhibitors have to be able to trust that attendees, especially press credentialed attendees, won't make them look foolish in order to drive traffic to their blogs.

Anyway, I hope you took notice of the real point of my comment:

    That's nothing to laugh about.

This is more about the prank being done by a Gizmodo employee than the prank itself. If some Joe Blow attendee had done this, the blowback wouldn't have been as bad.

Credentialed people are held to a higher standard. They are trusted to cover the event, not affect the outcome of it. Any blogger or press member should be embarrassed by this kind of behavior. As a writer and an event planner, I'm pissed in every way imaginable.
