This has passed House and I was reading in Oh's site that President will sign it soon. Is it possible to throw in some indirect 485 backlog reduction provisions in there?

Currently, the department is receiving more than 1 million passport applications a month and holds a backlog of about 500,000 that have been pending more than 10 weeks, instead of the usual six to eight The Senate passed S. 966 bill late last month to allow State to rehire retired Foreign Service employees to staff overwhelmed passport processing centers across the country. Retirees now have little incentive to return because current law cuts their salaries by the amount of their pensions. The House yesterday agreed to the Senate bill and passed it yesterday which is likely to grant the State Department the flexibility to rehire retired and fully trained passport processors on a temporary basis to help existing processors manage the increased demand. Hello All,
I have a certain queries regarding the transfer from L2 to H1B.
My husband is on L1 and me on L2 with my EAD still under processing. However my husband's firm wants to get his visa converted to H1 which automatically cancels my L2 status and I would have to apply for H4.
So now my query is for how long will his status of L1 be valid will it be till the start date of H1B, or the minute he files in his papers for H1B or when his H1B gets approved?

Returning to the US after living abroad for 9 years and need to know what is the best process for my wife to re-apply for green card.
History:
My wife and I have been married for 20 years, own a home in the US and have one child who holds a US passport. While living in the US my wife held a Green Card. However, when we moved she surrendered the card. Now we are returning to the US and she need to get the Green Card once again. Does she need to apply as if this is the first time or is there an application or process for previous residents or Green Card holders?

Dear Fellow Posters
After 12 months of toil I have finally completed the narrative and evidence that I need for an EB-1a (Extraordinary Alien) application. I ab about to complete the I-140 paperwork to go with it.
My questions is this - I have contacted a small number of Immigration attorneys who have quoted me approx $6000 for the whole process. How many of you value think that USCIS would look at my application more favourably if I used a reputed attorney rathen than putting in my own application and paperwork ?

Hi, I'm trying to take 2 kids from my daycare to see their dad before he gets deported. The mom cant do it because she has a restraining order against him. Is it possible to visit someone once they get picked up by immigration from jail? If so how and what do I need to do to make this happen? I'm trying to do this for the kids, they don't understand what is going on and they feel responsible, they are the ones that called 911. Mom has no problem with me doing this she just wants the kids to see that their father is OK.
Here is some info that might be useful:
he is scheduled to be released for deportation on 12/03/10
he is in Santa Clara County Department of Correction Elmwood Facility

I have e-filed my EAD & AP Renewal last week and trying to send supporting documents and I can't find what needs to be sent for this.....
Questions:
1) Do we need to send any photographs for my AP?
2) Any proof of Identification (passport first page) or Drivers License
3) Any H1 approval notices? (I am still on H1B)
4) Also I filed my AP which is expiring in Dec-08 i.e. 150 days before its expiry and curious to know if anyone�s application got rejected or approved. (I guess 120 days is the limit)
I appreciate your time and response.

Yes, this is very common. BTW once IO at POE made an error and give I-94 till 3 years when my I-797 was expiring in less than a year. Immediately came back to him and brought to his attention and he corrected it.

She also met with law enforcement leaders to discuss the Department�s efforts to support state, local and tribal law enforcement in protecting communities from cross-border threats. I am thinking of leaving my current employer & joining the primary vendor for the client, wondering if my employer can hold back last month's salary OR how people have handled such situations.

Why should the employer hold your salary? If you had any agreement for paying back cost of your GC processing for leaving within a certain period, that would not hold any more (since last June such agreements are illegal)

That could be things like

RFE - Request for evidence.
For I-140 USCIS does not update the online status properly. For both of my EB3 and EB2 I-140s still the case status says they received the application and processing!
Wait for the document that they sent.

I like to change my employer with my pending labor with my current employer. Last year my current employer did 1 yr extension based on pending labor. Still my current employer didn't receive 45 days Notice. But I don't have any info. about my labor. I know only priority date and USPS mail confirmation (when it reached labor dept). I sent 2 mail to H1B7YR@PHI.DFLC.US to get screen shot. But i didn't get any response.
Can you pls help is there any other source to get Labor info.? Since without this labor info. my new employer can't transfer my H1B.
